The Inauguration Ceremony of CCNS


The Computer Center for Nuclear Science(CCNS) has been opened in Hanoi at the Institute of Nuclear Scienceand Technique as the materialization of the Agreements between RIKEN and VAEC signed in March 1997. The inauguration ceremony took place on June 23, 1997. At the inauguration ceremony there had been the RIKEN delegation headed by RIKEN president Akito Arima, vice-ministerof Science - Technology and Environment of Vietnam, president of the National University of Hanoi, representatives of Fujitsu, NEC, ministry of Science-Technologyand Environement, ministry of Culture and Information, ministry of Interior Affair, Central Post Office and Telegraphic Communication of Vietnam, representatives from the cabinet of the Government of Vietnam, professors, researchers from several universities and institutes in Vietnam.

CCNS is equipped with 16 state-of-the-art Pentium-Pro PCs provided by NEC, a Sun Sparc work-station and two ICL servers provided by Fujitsu as well as necessary peripheral harwares, connected within the LAN and to the Internet via the Vietnam Data Communication (VDC) - the only state company, which provides the Internet connection in Vietnam. The CCNS, which runs the UNIX and Windows NT and has important softwares for theoretical calculations and data processing, is opened for all users from universities and reseach institutes in Vietnam.

The administration of CCNS consists of a director (Dr.Nguyen Dinh Dang), two deputies (Dr. Le Chi Dung and Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung), and one system manager (Mr. Nguyen Hao Quang). Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung and Mr. Nguyen Hao Quang were trained as system administrators for 4 months at the Wako campus of RIKEN. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Dang is currently working in RIKEN as an STA research fellow.
